So after working out with our sauce manufacturing partners, we've concocted the perfect sauce that complements the Umami of seafood - and we dare say all types of seafood! We've tried out a few recipes, but some either toughened the fish meat (vinegar does that), or are too sweet, or too strong for the seafood. There are various recipes for the Kaisendon Sauce and we thought to save you the hassle of buying the ingredients and then making the sauce. We've also incorporated the use of our signature Washi (Japanese paper) for the labels! However, being such a simple dish, it is possible to enjoy it at any time of the year. One of the most exciting things that went down at Zairyo is the creation of this Kaisendon Sauce for Chirashi! It is also very popular to get it during Kodomonohi, the festival celebrating Children’s Day, during the month of May. During this event, which takes place on March 3, the welfare of young Japanese girls is touted and special ingredients are chosen so that the dish is aligned with this premise. This dish is a very traditional preparation that is eaten during the spring, for the Hina Masturi festival (or girls’/dolls’ day). When is the ideal time to eat chirashizushi in Japan? The correct thing to do in this case would be to place a small bowl of soy sauce on the side of the dish in which to dip the various chirashi toppings after eating them with the chopsticks. In addition, it is considered that as it has a very strong flavor it can interfere in the wrong way with the rather delicate flavors of the dish. Sushi neta (寿司ネタ) refers to all the other ingredients that are part of this dish besides rice, such as fish, seafood, vegetables, and whatever else is added to it.Īlthough soy sauce is a very popular ingredient in Japan (and Asia in general), serving it on top of chirashi sushi is often considered bad manners as the brown color of the sauce makes the appearance of the dish a little less appealing. Sushi meshi (すし飯), also commonly called shari, is the rice with vinegar, salt and sugar used to prepare Japanese sushi. Because of this, the government imposed a law stating that people could only eat “a bowl of soup and a side dish.” Sushi bara was invented to hide fish and vegetables in the dishes by chopping everything very small and hiding it in the rice.Īlthough there are several ways to prepare this dish, there are two main components that should not be missing if you want to prepare it correctly: sushi meshi and sushi neta. During the Edo period, a great flood covered the city of Okayama, generating a long time of unrest in the population in which of course hunger prevailed. Regarding gomoku sushi, there is a version called Okayama Prefecture’s sushi bara. Outside Tokyo, the most popular variant is gomoku sushi, which also includes cooked ingredients to prevent them from spoiling. Since the ingredients had to be fresh and generally raw, they were only consumed this way in this area. To make this dish, fresh ingredients such as fish and seafood that were readily available in Tokyo Bay were essential. ![]() What is the origin of chirashizushi?Ĭhirashizushi is a variation of Edomae sushi, which originated in Tokyo (at that time called Edo, hence its name) during the Meiji period. In this case, the rice is mixed with rice wine rather than rice vinegar and combined with shrimp, octopus, mushrooms, bamboo, beaten and chopped egg and various types of fish. There is another, slightly less popular version, called sake-zushi (also known as Kyushu-style sushi). Gomokuzushi (Kansai style sushi) is composed of different ingredients that can be raw or cooked and are integrated with the rice, not arranged in different layers. ![]() It is basically composed of white rice and various raw ingredients on top. ![]()

![]() In the example we just gave, you would set the metronome to 120 bpm and use this time (listening to the metronome) for each quarter note of the song on that sheet music. The best way to play a song from sheet music is having a metronome beside you where you can set the length of the beats. Okay, but why don’t we say that a Quarter note is worth half a second instead of saying that it is worth “120 bpm”? This is because metronomes work in bpm. Going further, we can conclude that a beat/note lasts half a second in this case. Since one minute has 60 seconds, this is the same as saying “2 beats per second”. To say “120 beats per minute” means to say that the length of each beat or note is such that 120 of these can fit within a minute. This means that a Quarter note is worth 120 beats per minute. This length is given in bpm (beats per minute), that is, if it is written: Somewhere on the sheet music there will be how long a certain figure is worth (usually the value of a quarter note is informed) and the length of the other figures you will know by deduction. This reference will be provided by the song itself.įor example, let’s say you downloaded sheet music from the internet. Obviously, we need a time reference for these figures to make sense. Great, this example served for teaching purposes, but how do we know the real time (in seconds) that each figure represents? How do you know if the Thirty-second note is worth 1 second, for example? Is there any definition in this regard? Therefore, if the 32th note represented 1 second, a Whole note would represent 32 seconds. Note that 32 Thirty-second notes can fit within a Whole note. In this diagram, it is easy to see how the figures fit inside each other. For example, two eighth notes, one next to the other, Note: notice that the figures faster than the quarter note appear linked, forming blocks that correspond to one quarter note. This example was important to introduce the idea that a Quarter Note can fit 2 Eighth Notes or 4 Sixteenth Notes or 8 Thirty-second Notes, etc. Let’s say the value of a quarter note is US$ 1.00. Let’s make it more practical now by taking it to real life. We chose the value 1 for the quarter note here just to have a reference. Let’s give you an example: if we assigned any value to these figures, let’s say, for example, that the value of the Quarter note is 1, we would have the following: The Quarter note, lasts half the time of the Half note and so on. In other words, the Half note lasts half the time of the Whole note. First of all, know that we have just shown the figures, in order, using the following logic: each figure shown lasts half the time of the previous figure. Nice, but what is the time length of each one of these figures in practice? We’ll see that now. How can we know the time/duration of each note or chord in sheet music? By learning note values! See them below: The note values Now that we’ve learned the representation of notes in sheet music, the time has come to study the note values. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thorin II, also known as Thorin Oakenshield, was the King of Durin's Folk from T.A. 2941, being the son of Thráin II, grandson of Thrór and older brother to Frerin and Dís. In this complicated world of ours, there's no such thing as black and white. It's difficult for others to understand one's motivations and actions, and, as such, it's common to misunderstand them completely. Due to this peculiar situation, the assassin Shadwen will have to make a lot of choices during her mission to kill the king: preserve Lily's innocence as much as possible by sparing her the worst, or just continue on the set path, careless of how the little girl will perceive her actions? This is a choice that players will have to make over and over during the course of Shadwen, a choice that ultimately influences the whole experience of the game developed by Frozenbyte.Įven more so when it's an innocent child who's trying to understand what motivates an assassin. Shadwen stars a rather unlikely duo: the titular ruthless assassin and a young orphan called Lily, whom she meets by chance after she's caught by the guards of the castle stealing apples and sneaking around places she should not be in. Unable to leave her alone, Shadwen decides to bring her along for the ride, a complication for her mission that will ultimately influence her greatly. Shadwen's story, which is mostly narrated through cutscenes made up of drawings, isn't anything to write home about: it's a typical, and somewhat predictable fantasy story from beginning to end. Still, the gritty, dark fantasy atmosphere and the narrative style, which encourages players to listen to guards talking to understand more about the general situation of the kingdom, makes it somewhat enjoyable. This somber atmosphere, highlighted by an appropriate (but kind of repetitive) soundtrack, is made less oppressive by the short interactions between the two main characters, which give a more intimate feel to the adventure. Lily's innocence contrasts nicely with Shawden's determined approach, with the latter eventually opening up to the little girl by the end of her mission, something that will definitely influence a critical decision that players will have to make at the end of the game.Ĭhoices in general make up a big part of the experience in Shadwen, as players actually have plenty of freedom during the course of the adventure. The game is a rather straightforward stealth title where players will have to stay hidden from enemy guards at all times and reach the end of each stage, which is represented by sets of doors which require both Shadwen and Lily to be opened. Reaching them is pretty easy for our assassin, as she is empowered with a vast array of tools and abilities which make traversing each stage almost a walk in the park, but the same cannot be said about Lily, who needs all the help she can get to slip by unnoticed. This is definitely one of the more interesting twists, as the true challenge is for players to clear the field for Lily to reach the end of the stage unseen. How to actually do that, it's up to them. In most cases, all that players will have to do to make Lily move towards the end of the stage is distracting guards. They can do so by moving around a variety of objects, make some noise by using weapons, destroy crates and barrels, knock down bottles and more, or simply get close enough to attract guards' attention without alerting them. Once the coast is clear, Lily will be moving automatically from one safe spot to another, spots that are also safe for Shadwen, if she ever needs to hide. ![]() ![]() ![]() (You can check out how to convert your patterns HERE.
